Generation Y

I am trying very hard to understand my children these days who fall under generation Y,you see I am from the generation X. It's not easy to understand today's children , the internet age.To really click with them, I have to speak their 'lingo'.What they want and aspire is really very different from my generation.I must admit I am a mom who lets my children get away with alot of things.Of course,every now and again I get really frustrated and blew up, I am only human.Today's children have so many doors open to them such as drugs, vice etc etc.So we are really walking a fine line here, if we are not careful we may just lose our children to them.As parents today,we have to really listen to our children and I mean really listen.Not to impose our dreams ,religion and ideas on them.We can only guide them and give them our love because love conquers all.But our children are not stupid ,they have their dreams and aspiration too so as parents we can only advise them. Parents are really stupid if they don't try to listen to their children, because sometimes they are really trying to tell us something but we just shut our ears to them. We don't always understand what they are saying but we could at least try to see things from their point of view even if we totally disagree with them. I admit it's trying at times but if we could only listen, then maybe there won't be so many runaways these days.

I feel damned old lately.I mean I can't believe I have got a 16 going on 17 son.And the worst thing is he is not going to stop growing.I swear sometimes I feel really young at heart but when is this feeling going to stop.I am counting my days.No matter how hard I try , I can't shake the feeling we are going to grow old one day.I still have this phobia about growing old.I know about living in the now but time just flies so fast.Then again age is just a number ,right.Like they say,40s is the new 20s.These days people take pains to maintain their looks so they will look timeless.To you young people,enjoy your youth cos it's never going to come back.A good thing about aging though is newfound confidence and wisdom(I hope).Seriously I still can't understand why we grow old,lol.

Leon will be going to college next year, it's a bittersweet feeling cos he's grown up but we won't be as close anymore.I treasure all the years picking him up from school and have lunches together and talked about so many things. To him,he is so happy to enter a new phase in his life but it's hard to let go.I guess that's what every mother has to go through in their lives but I just can't believe this day will come.Time really flies, before u know it,it's almost twenty years gone.Sometimes I wish to turn back the clock and be a better mother to him.Well, I think I will get used to it when the time comes but I better treasure the present moment.

I think the economic crisis is trying to teach us a valuable lesson,that too much of a good thing is bad for us.We are living in a society that is so consumer oriented.We want the latest things, the latest gadgets, the latest cars and the list goes on.We tend to compare ourselves with our neighbours on who has the bigger cars or bigger whatever.This crisis has really woken us up from this shameless reality , that it's ok to live on simple things and really live within our means.We really should only buy things that we really need and save for a raining day.

Neighbours

Talking about good neighbours, we have some amazing people staying on our floor.So sincere and friendly,we have a Japanese couple moving in two doors away from us.They came just now to just introduce themselves to me,such a lovely couple. They apologised profusely about the renovation that is going in their apartment.So polite, it's very humbling.We seldom see people doing that here,people here are so self absorbed myself included.However I only have good things to say about our Malaysian neighbours next door,they are the epitome of a good neighbour.

I have been reading alot of spiritual books such as A New Earth and The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.I love these books because they really tell us the secrets to living well spiritually and answer to whole lot of unanswered questions that we are desperately seeking.These books basically tell how our egos and minds are our ultimate destroyers of our true self.Of how we can actually learn to listen to our hearts and not feeding our minds and egos.Of how to detach ourselves from our egos and minds which play tricks on us most of the time.If we are not aware of them then we ultimately become our own victims.How profound!Anyway I have just finished reading The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra.This is not some run of the mills secret to success books it will change ur perpestive of life forever. Of course it takes alot of effort to put into practice what's it's been taught ,but hey if we practise a little at a time,who knows.

To Better Health

I have been neglecting my health for so long.I eat unconciously not counting cholestrol or calories.I enjoy eating and hate health food.But now after all the binging during CNY, I suddenly feel that I should be eating healthier.So I am going to edit any food that is high in cholestrol and fat from my diet.I am also going to exercise more.I think it's ok to grow old but it's not ok to let yourself go.It's definitely going to be a health year for me and my hubby.Cheers to better health and a smaller waistline.

Haven't blogged for a few days,so busy .can't stand to be busy,need to take a breather.Basically I am a very lazy person like to chill alot.Anyway will be going to Singapore in two days,looks like its going to be same old same old, nothing new.It's almost February,looks like we are starting to see the impact of the economic crisis.It's really going to be a scary bull year,but I am keeping my fingers crossed.Happy Chinese New Year everybody!

It's that time of the year again, Chinese New Year.There is a change of plan again,we will be going to Singapore instead of my sister coming over to KL.I am not getting excited yet cos I am still trying to get back into my routine.I hope it'll be fun this time but I am not sure.It seems everyone is in a down mood.Or is it just me, feeling quite down lately for no reasons whatsoever.

January is the month that I hate the most, cos I have to recover from my dreamlike existence from the month long holiday I had in December.You know it's so difficult to get back into routine after the holidays.The thing I really dread is the ferrying of my children back and forth from their tuition which is almost every single day of the week on top of doing everything else in the house.The only consolation I have is dreaming of another holiday again . That makes the daily grind a bit more tolerable.I know, I know it sounds so extravagant to always go on holiday,but I think travelling brodens your mind and perspective of things.I wouldn't trade travelling for another tv or a nicer car or a bigger house,cos to me material things don't buy me happiness but travelling does.My mom always says that wait til you are old and no more commiments then travel,I totally disagree with her cos we'll never know how old we'll live and whether we'll be healthy enough to travel.So I am all for travelling while you can and able to.I also like my children to be see the world and how other people live, although my husband will disagree with me because it's hard on his pocket. I think true happiness is doing what you love and live your life with passion and not what you have achieved in your life.Cheers

I had been planning my Japan trip for so long since mid of last year, now I have been and came back,Christmas is gone too then New Year then now I have to start thinking about Chinese New Year.This year will be absolutely different from last year cos we won't be going to Singapore but instead my sister and brother-in law and their two children will be coming to KL.First time we will celebrate CNY in my house, I like the idea and want to make it fun for ourselves and guests.

Highlights of 2008

My Japan vacation,one of the best vacations I have ever been.We had a great time in Universal Studio,Osaka and Disneyland in Tokyo. I can't believe I too enjoyed the rides so much, just goes to show I am still really young at heart.This vacation is really the highlight of 2008, the other one is my sister's wedding and seeing my niece again after one and half years.
